Construction Licensing’s Initial Licensing Consultation (ILC) is a structured health check of an applicant’s current position against QBCC builder licensing requirements. Our ILC provides guidance to the applicant around whether they are ready to apply or whether they just fall short. Construction Licensing will help identify the risks, and map a clear evidence-based pathway forward.

WHAT WE DO
Our licensing specialist will provide an independent and objective summary about:
- Qualifications achieved, equivalency and alignment with QBCC licence classes
- Objective clarification about the need to obtain additional or updated qualifications
- Practical construction experience and supervision history gained
- Project experience gained – Building Classes and Types of Construction under the BCA
- Lawful evidence of experience (employment, subcontracting, documentation)
- Referee suitability including licence class alignment and/or currency
- Business structure, nominee requirements, companies, partnerships and trusts
COMMON ISSUES IDENTIFIED
From our experience the most common hurdles are:
- Overlapping projects that cannot be counted toward QBCC time
- Projects that are “minor contracts” in nature for a full builder licence application
- Higher/Lower ask for experience working through projects and classes/type of building under the BCA
- Insufficient evidence (ie invoices, payslips or bank records)
- Referees not appropriately licensed or aligned
- Scope of responsibilities not considered at the appropriate level
- Incorrect licence class being targeted and general licensing compliance
- Conflicting or inconsistent clarification around licensing requirements for builders
