what is the initiative?
Everthought Education successfully secured funding through the NSW Government in partnership with Northern Rivers and Construction Licensing. This initiative, was launched in response to the need for more qualified and licensed contractors in disaster recovery, offering local contractors the opportunity to expand their licences to include Waterproofing. With many homes requiring rectification work, qualified waterproofers are crucial to ensuring complaint repairs to meet industry standards. Additionally, this qualification will enable contractors to certify their work and tailor their businesses specifically to waterproofing – a known high-defect area in residential construction.
The majority of contractors under the program are already licensed and running local businesses in in their own trade covering carpentry, plumbing and tiling. Participants were required to demonstrate their skills and experience specific to Waterproofing work to qualify for the funding under Recognition of Prior Learning. Where contractors may have a gap, technical training is provided.
our role
As a key partner in this initiative, Construction Licensing is responsible for providing guidance and support throughout the licensing application process for Waterproofing. This service is fully funded under the initiative, making it an accessible opportunity for eligible contractors.
During our recent presentation at Byron Bay Community College, we outlined the various licensing options available to participants, including pathways to expand their current licences into General Builders or Specialists Restricted Builders Licences, such as Kitchen, Bathroom, and Laundry Renovations.
We’re now actively onboarding participants to help answer all their specific questions regarding Trade Contractor Licences and Builders Licences. Our goal is to assist in adding the Waterproofing class to their existing Fair-Trading Licence, and where applicable, support the process for obtaining a General Builders Licence or a Restricted Builders Licence in NSW. We’re also covering key topics like business structures, licensing compliance, and meeting fitness and propriety requirements as determined by the licensing authority.
Everthought Education will provide top up training and RPL assessments for the CPC31420 Certificate III in Construction Waterproofing and the CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction, addressing the critical skills shortages in the community.
a successful pilot
The pilot program has been a great success. Local contractors are embracing the opportunity, and we’re excited to play our part in guiding them through the licensing process, contributing to the broader industry and local economy.
We anticipate similar opportunities will soon be available across various trades within the NSW building and construction industry.
If you’re interested in participating in future programs, we encourage you to contact Everthought Education or Construction Licensing directly to discuss your skills and experience. We’ll assess your eligibility and plot your pathway for a Trade Contractor Licence or Builders Licence.
Please note the qualification and licensing process must meet current industry standards and Govt policies. There are a range of prerequisites that may need to be evidenced such as your onsite experience and references covering a minimum period of 2 -4 years.
